Our founder Laura, founded GenEarth in 2019 in response to the global youth climate strikes. Young people were demanding meaningful climate education and she responded to this.
Since then, we have supported thousands of young people to understand and act on the climate crisis and are constantly evolving in line with the needs of the young people we serve.

The climate crisis does not exist in a vacuum. It is connected to the food we eat, the clothes we wear, the animals we share the planet with, the communities bearing the heaviest consequences and the information we are given about all of it. Our programme themes are chosen because they represent the most direct and meaningful intersections between the climate crisis and the realities young people are already navigating.
We do not pick themes for the sake of breadth. Each one is chosen because it opens up a genuine conversation about systems, structures and consequences that young people can connect to their own lives. And because we believe that understanding those connections is more powerful than understanding the climate crisis in isolation.
Our themes are also chosen in collaboration with the expert partner organisations we work with, the teachers who deliver alongside us and the young people who have been through our programmes. We test, adapt and refine based on what is actually landing. If a theme is not opening up the right conversations, we go back to the drawing board.

Our programmes are designed for young people aged 5 to 18, delivered primarily in state schools and community settings across England. We prioritise schools in communities facing socioeconomic barriers, where access to this kind of education is least available and the need is greatest.
-
Every programme is co-designed with expert partner organisations working at the forefront of the issues we cover. Teachers, young people and our own facilitators are involved throughout, and we test and adapt continuously based on what is actually working.
-
We collect feedback from young people and teachers after every workshop, tracking knowledge gained, shifts in confidence and sense of agency. We also measure longer term outcomes where possible. Our first impact to date report is coming soon!

Climate change refers to the long term shifts in global temperatures and weather patterns. We use the term climate crisis because the scale, urgency and human cost of what we are experiencing goes far beyond a gradual shift. It is a crisis affecting ecosystems, communities and the futures of entire generations, and the language we use should reflect that.
-
Climate justice recognises that the people least responsible for causing the climate crisis are often those most severely affected by it. Low income communities, indigenous populations and people across the global south are bearing the heaviest consequences of a crisis largely driven by the consumption and decisions of wealthier nations and individuals.
But climate justice is not just a global issue. Within the UK, the impacts of the climate crisis fall unevenly too. Communities already facing poverty, poor housing and limited access to green space are more exposed to flooding, air pollution and extreme heat.Understanding this is not optional. It is central to understanding the climate crisis itself. A response to the climate crisis that does not address these inequalities is not a just one. That is why climate justice sits at the heart of what we do at GenEarth.
