My Clothes My World
GenEarth and Fashion Takes Action have teamed up to bring the My Clothes My World programme to Key Stage 3 UK classrooms. To empower young people to become change makers in the world of sustainable fashion.
Solving Fashion's Waste Problem
Did you know that each year, the world generates approximately 92 million tonnes of clothing waste? To put that
amount into perspective, that’s about one lorry load full of clothes being added to landfill or incineration sites across
the globe every second of every day! In the UK alone, between 300,000 and 350,000 tonnes of clothing are discarded
every year.

In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the issues surrounding clothing overconsumption and fashion waste. While it may not be apparent at the point of purchase or even when discarding unwanted garments, how we consume and dispose of clothing has far-reaching effects on human communities and natural environments in the UK and around the world.
Why Sustainable Fashion?
Fashion is a huge part of young people’s lives, but it’s also one of the world’s most resource-intensive industries. Our interactive, 50-minute workshop gives students the chance to:
-
Discover the environmental impact of fashion waste
-
Learn how the 7 R’s (reduce, reuse, repurpose, repair, resale, rent, recycle) can shape a more sustainable future
-
Explore and Become Sustainable Fashion Leaders in their school and community
Designed by industry experts, this workshop makes climate action relatable, practical, and fun.

About Fashion Takes Action
Fashion Takes Action (FTA) is Canada’s leading non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing sustainability in the fashion industry. FTA empowers citizens, educators, and businesses by providing the tools and knowledge needed to create lasting change. Their mission is to remove barriers to sustainability and foster collaboration, innovation, and impact throughout the fashion ecosystem. FTA envisions a world where responsible fashion is the norm—where ethics and circularity are embedded in every garment, and sustainable fashion is accessible to everyone.

As a catalyst for change, FTA brings together stakeholders from across the fashion value chain, bridges knowledge gaps to support informed decision-making, and offers practical solutions to sustainability challenges. Its work spans four key areas:
-
driving circularity by eliminating textile waste and optimising resource use
-
promoting responsible consumption through education and awareness
-
informing policy through research
-
delivering educational programs that empower individuals and organisations.
Fashion Takes Action is committed to creating a more sustainable and equitable future for fashion.
